Movie Meme Stolen from Wulfgar

September 9th, 2008 (12:02 pm)

1. One movie that made you laugh: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Every. Single. Time. (And the number of times I've watched it is up in the twenties by now.)

2. One movie that made you cry: Finding Nemo. That part at the beginning. I bawled like a little bitch.

3. One movie you loved when you were a child: Star Wars.

4. One movie you’ve seen more than once: Groundhog Day.

5. One movie you loved, but were embarrassed to admit: Titanic.

6. One movie you didn't like: John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars Yeah. Way to totally waste Clea DuVall, Pam Grier, Joannna Cassidy and Jason Statham, you jerks.

7. One movie that scared you: The original HK version of The Eye, although "scared" is putting it mildly.

8. One movie that bored you: Dinner at Eight made me want to tie a plastic bag over my head.

9. One movie that made you happy: The ridiculous overabundance of pretty in A Walk in the Clouds never fails to bring me joy.

10. One movie that made you miserable: Very Bad Things. This is supposed to be funny? To whom? Sociopaths?

11. One movie you weren’t brave enough to see: Saving Private Ryan.

12. One movie character you’ve fallen in love with: Richard B. Riddick from Pitch Black. A tall, velvet-rumbly voiced, double-jointed escaped murderer with huge muscles, eyes that shine in the dark, dimples, an I.Q. of 190, a snarky sense of humor, and long, curly eyelashes -- who has a change of heart at the very last minute, and saves the day... er, night? Can I really be blamed?

13. The last movie you saw: Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things.

14. The next movie you hope to see: The Day the Earth Stood Still. Squee!

Obvious Dream is Obvious

Hey, I have an Etsy store!

Now that that's out of the way... dude. I had a creepy, yet strangely optimistic disaster dream last night, or maybe this morning. Unfortunately, I don't remember much about it, because I was too lazy and sleepy to write it down. I had to wake up early, cuz I'm filling in for Tchia at the office. (Yay for extra hours!)

ZQ's Disaster Dream

I remember standing on the balcony1 of a restaurant2 at night3. I'd like to think it was Yamashiro. It was someplace with a great view. I definitely wasn't by myself, but I don't remember who else was there. Or, maybe I didn't know. The whole dream was dark and chaotic.

I (we) stood on the balcony and watched as, in the distance, an entire city4 burned5 and crumbled. I vaguely remember hearing reports of some horrific disaster6. I have no idea if it was a bomb or an alien invasion, or what. But, there was a massive, massive fire. I could smell the smoke, even from where I was standing. Me being me, even in the dream I remember thinking this was sort of neato7.

Then there was something about running up a flight of stairs8, and traveling on a bus9 (again, it was "all of us," whoever "we" were), through the dark, to a safer place.

Annotations under the cut. )

1) Still unemployed. The clerical market seems to have dried up and blown away, at least for those of us who don't do Accounts Payable, HR, or medical billing. Which is all I'm getting from Monster.com, despite the fact that none of those things are listed in my search criteria.

2) Went to my unemployment evaluation meeting yesterday. I got this scary paper in the mail that said I had an appointment at 9:30 in Glendale that CANNOT BE RESCHEDULED. (Yes, written just like that.) So, I dragged my ass out to Glendale yesterday morning, only to have the unemployment lady ask me how I'd been trying to find a job, glance at my written list of attempts, hand me a pile of pamphlets, and tell me I was on the right track, kthxbye! I was in and out in 30 seconds. Seriously. This couldn't have been done over the phone? Thanks for making me waste gas, jerks.

3) Screw clerical work anyway. I have signed up for a two-day bartending seminar at a bartenders' employment agency. (Next Wednesday and Thursday). They're looking for girl bartenders especially. Wish me luck!

4) So far, I've been rejected by five literary agents. That's not so many. As the saying goes, I've been kicked out of better places than this. )

The Cab Ride

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living.

JOAN: That would read so much better as: I drove a cab for the living.
MATT: Stay tuned for Undead Cabbie. Driver carries no change or brains.

Not much of an update...

May 29th, 2008 (04:26 pm)
indescribable

current mood: indescribable

I've just written the first two ten pages of the first draft of the sequel to Spirit Squad. Working title: Spirit Season.

I can tell you already: writing sequels is WEIRD. It's like writing fanfic... of... my... own story. Bzuh? I'm not at all sure how to back-fill information, but I guess I can worry about that after I'm done.

I've missed the clan at Horace Walpole High though. Brand new school quarter, brand new potentially hilarious and awkward Home Ec class, brand new ghost-flavored winter adventures. I'm happy to be back.

No agent news. They're all off at Book Expo America until next Wednesday or so. No job news, either. Tomorrow is my last day. Lordy. That's weird, too.

I don't know what I'm going to do. About a job, about the book. Argh. I don't like this feeling at all as it pertains to my paycheck, but I do like this feeling as it pertains to an unexplored writing landscape. So... yeah. Heading out there with a water bottle and three matches. Wish me luck.

More cake, please!
